Have you ever noticed that your fire alarm or your smoke alarm goes off every time you cook? If so, then you have your fire and smoke alarms in the wrong place. While you want a smoke or fire alarm in or near the kitchen, you want to make sure that it is not right next to the stove. Otherwise, every single time you open the oven you could go temporarily deaf from the ear piercing alarm.

Also, make sure that you are not placing the alarms directly on the ceiling. It has been found that the best place for the alarm to quickly detect smoke is on the wall, just a couple of inches down from the ceiling. If the alarm is too low, it will not sound in time to alert you and your family to the fire.
