Many dramas, horror stories, novels, movies and more begin with the sentiment that it was a ‘day just like any other,’ when the main character’s world is turned upside down. If you think that kind of drama only happens in the movies, you’ve never been the victim of a home burglar. In fact, most people in the United States don’t think about intruders as one of the top threats to their way of life via their home security, but they are high on top of the list. Many homeowners would never even think of leaving their doors unlocked, but fail to realize that a simple door or window lock in the world of today can be just as unprotected as leaving your property and home wide open to criminals. While the world may not be as trustworthy as it once was, luckily technologies like home security systems are keeping up with the times too. It’s not only easy, but affordable today to stay protected by the best.

Once thought of as something meant only for commercial locations or the super rich, today protecting your home and assets with a home security system simply makes good sense. What burglars are looking for is no longer jewelry and stashes of cash, although they will take them too, but the average criminal is far more focused today on small electronics like iPods, cell phones and laptop computers, prescription medications, and small weapons. The average homeowner has all of these things lying around in some form or another, and these easy to sell for cash items are what attracts the criminal in the first place. While this means there are more homes to hit, it means the process of a criminal selecting a home to burglarize is far more random than in the past, leaving even the most unsuspecting homeowners in the safest communities vulnerable to attack.

No matter what your concerns, there is a home security system out there that meets your needs. Many come with flood and fire protection, and can even detect when your pipes are in danger of freezing in cold climates. There are a variety of intruder protection features which range from something as high tech as video surveillance systems, to something as simple as a motion sensor burglar alarm. There are wired and wireless systems, systems that detect breaking glass, and systems that detect when any window or door is opened without your consent. Those living alone with mobility issues or other disabilities are able to use their systems as a 24/7 medical watchdog, and can instantly summon assistance with the push of a wireless button. Technology is making the world safer, although it’s making the world far more accessible for criminals. The key, as a homeowner, is harvesting the power of that technology, and not falling victim to it due to negligence in protecting your home, family and property properly! Think you can’t afford such a system? The average homeowner loses more than $2,000 in property and damages post-break in. Now, is that something you can afford right now?

Don’t hesitate to protect your home with Total Alarm Systems home security. A variety of alarm devices may be the right solution for you!

I’ve been thinking long and hard about environmental issues and I’m really pleased that we now have recycling in our area, with green bins for garden refuse, small bins for food waste, and special boxes for cardboard, paper and glass. I live in a built up area prone to break-ins, however, what I love about my new system is that they are always developing new applications and in future I’ll be able to monitor all my home appliances, even draw the curtains, programme lights to go on and off and install home security video cameras. The alerts are easy, they come to me via email, text and Twitter and I can see if any burglar has tripped a switch on the alarm system. I can’t wait for the energy usage system, it will help me save money and it will help me reduce my carbon footprint. It’s certainly been money very well invested.

DIY Alarm Systems have become far more sophisticated. Fully wireless home and secure burglar alarm systems can be monitored and controlled remotely. Advanced DIY systems can be installed as a simple starter kit from as little as £239.99 with the option to add devices and functionality covering energy and appliances as well as home security. They can be connected to broadband to send notifications and alerts via telephone, text message, email and Twitter.

Thanks to advances in technology you have the potential to evolve your self-install DIY Alarm system from a security system to a complete home monitoring solution at the touch of a mouse.

A fully automated burglar alarm system with keypad or key fob entry and the potential to achieve complete home automation is available from market leaders http://www.home-halo.co.uk.

DIY alarm systems are becoming increasingly popular. The rising cost of insurance premiums and the credit crunch which has resulted in a rise in theft means that home-owners are now even more anxious to ensure their hard earned property and precious family heirlooms are kept safe. Even children’s toys are a target for thieves these days, especially at Christmas, as they know that most parcels are bound to contain expensive electronic toys and games which are easily resalable.

Many people feel sophisticated burglar alarm systems are too expensive and are only for large houses or estates and are seeking to install their own burglar alarm to protect their property. DIY alarm systems used to be very primitive in their form and design. Comprising a simple trip switch covering a specific area of the house, it was easy for burglars to find ways of by-passing the system by cutting the wires, or finding entry to the house via an unprotected area. Alarm systems now enable home owners to be notified of intruders, fire, flood, panic alarms, gas leaks and much, much more. New devices can be added such as cameras to view the activity in the home.

Fully wireless home and secure burglar alarm systems can be monitored and controlled remotely. Systems can be installed as a simple starter kit from as little as £239.99 with the option to add devices and functionality covering energy and appliances as well as home security. Now, your DIY Alarm System comes straight out of the box and can be connected to broadband to send notifications and alerts via telephone, text message, email and Twitter.

Thanks to advances in technology you have the potential to evolve your self-install alarm system from a security system to a complete home monitoring solution at the touch of a mouse.

In today’s society, it seems any urban area has its fair share of criminal activity. Gone are the days when you could leave your house unlocked and the keys in your cars and not have to worry about anything being stolen.

For peace of mind, a lot of people barricade themselves in with all sorts of protection against burglars in their home. Their houses look like Fort Knox. We shouldn’t have to live in fear and we need to feel safe in our homes.

It is a shame that society has come to this point, and it really shouldn’t have to be this way.

If you are in the market for an alarm system for your safety, it can become quite confusing as to which one you can purchase. There are many different types of alarm systems on the market today, although there is one company that offers a totally unique approach to their systems.

Many alarm systems have an ear piercing siren and a flashing light out the front of your home to alert anyone that there may be a burglary taking place. How many people actually take any notice of these? Car alarm systems go off regularly and people take no notice, the same can be said for this sort of housing system.

Imagine then, having a voice coming from nowhere asking you to identify yourself. The alarm monitoring system that AMCO offers does exactly that. It is monitored 24/7 and works so well, that burglars do not hang around and often flee the scene, taking nothing.

Total peace of mind for everyone.

Chris Quighouse works as a freelance writer for AMCO, who provide an alarm monitoring service through their monitored alarms.

For city-dwellers, home burglar alarms have progressed from the barking of a family pet to state-of-the-art circuit systems. Understanding how they function will help you select the ideal burglar alarm system for your home, and perhaps give you the necessary background on how to maintain and utilize it properly. Here is a simplified explanation of how the system actually works.

Home burglar alarms are like electrical circuits, in that you are required to turn on a switch to activate a certain appliance. In the case of a burglar alarm, the intruder’s movements act as the turning on of the switch. The “switch” that he triggers activates the “appliance”, which is the sound of the alarm.

There are two types of electric circuits, and basing on their corresponding principles, there are two types of burglar alarms.

1. The first type is the closed-circuit system, wherein the door acts as the part that closes the circuit. Electricity flows throughout the circuit as long as it remains closed. If an intruder opens the door, he opens the circuit and the flow is interrupted, which triggers the alarm.

2. The second type is the open-circuit system, which utilizes the opposite principle as the former. This time, the circuit is open while the door is closed. When somebody opens the door, the circuit is closed and this prompts the flow of current as well as the alarm. This can be deactivated if the thief manages to cut the connected wires.

Apart from the two types, there is another simple alarm system which consists of a switch embedded in the door frame. While the door is closed, this button remains pushed in. When it is opened, it releases the button as well as the sound of the alarm.

Yet another basic type of home alarm system is the control box. This device has its own power supply and is attached to an alarm circuit. Depending on which circuit-type it is, it sounds the alarm when triggered, but won’t turn off until a security password is entered at a connected keypad. The control box is usually hidden securely when it is inaccessible to the intruder.

These are only the basic variations of home burglar alarms. If the intruder still manages to penetrate into the home, more complex alarm systems are required to deal with him, those that employ motion detector systems.

There are two major types of home burglar alarm system. The first is the traditional hard wired home alarm which has wire connections to all sensors and keypads. The second type is the wireless home security system which uses wireless transmission of data from sensors to the alarm. There is much discussion as to which of these is the best home alarm system. Each has its own proponents but we feel that the latest wireless systems have many advantages and we believe this to be the best choice for most homeowners and offices.

The hard wired traditional home alarm requires all the sensors from doors and windows to be connected to the central control panel by cables. The installation of a hard wired system necessitates cutting into walls and removal of skirting and floor boards in order to run the cables. This obviously entails a lot of work and repairs to walls after the installation. The net result is high cost and much disturbance of the home environment. In contrast to this a wireless home security system can be installed in an hour or two of easy work even by an amateur, do it yourself, installer.

There is really little need to hire a professional installer for this work because all it entails is setting up the sensors where you want them, and mounting the central receiver in a suitable spot. You then need to test all the sensor signals, to make sure they are working, and the job is essentially done. If you feel better about having a professional do the work of course then that is the way you should go. You will have peace of mind knowing that the job has been done properly and because of the ease of installation, of a wireless home security system, the actual installation costs should be quite reasonable.

Performance of either the hard wired home alarm system or the wireless security system is equal in all respects. There is however an advantage to the wireless alarm system in that it is battery powered. This means that an intruder cannot put it out of action by cutting wires. Should the phone line be cut the wireless home security system can respond by cellphone technology to the authorities. Cutting the phone line outside or inside the house will not deactivate the system.

Taking all these things into consideration it is fairly obvious that a wireless home security alarm system has many advantages over a hard wired system.

Have you ever noticed that your fire alarm or your smoke alarm goes off every time you cook? If so, then you have your fire and smoke alarms in the wrong place. While you want a smoke or fire alarm in or near the kitchen, you want to make sure that it is not right next to the stove. Otherwise, every single time you open the oven you could go temporarily deaf from the ear piercing alarm.

Also, make sure that you are not placing the alarms directly on the ceiling. It has been found that the best place for the alarm to quickly detect smoke is on the wall, just a couple of inches down from the ceiling. If the alarm is too low, it will not sound in time to alert you and your family to the fire.

You also want to make sure that you are never placing the alarms too high on the wall. Just like you learned that there is a small pocket of air on the floor, for a short time there is a small pocket of air around the ceiling. This means that your fire and smoke alarm will take extra long to go off and this is not something that you need to happen. Remember for that!

When you place all of your smoke and fire alarms in the right place in your house, you will be able to rest peacefully at night knowing that if something does happen, you will be alerted to it.
