Usually everyone sees fire extinguishers at some point in their life. Although most have this exposure, this does not mean that they know how to use one. Many of those who know what a fire extinguisher is have no clue how they are supposed to use it, nor do they understand the type they should buy. Knowing this kind of information can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.
Knowing this kind of information will help a person to buy the right type for their home or business, so here is the information that will help with such buying decisions. Anytime a fire arises, the extinguisher used must be the right one. This is the reason that it is important that people understand the different coding on the extinguishers which is used for helping people to identify the different types of fire it will work on.

As a professional home security system consultant (and business security systems) I have gotten this question quite often. My first response is “there is a reason why almost all major insurance companies give such a large discount (some require it) when you have a monitored security system”. Most companies give even deeper discounts with added fire protection/monitoring.
Beyond personal belongings, what really kept me in protection services is I have saved lives. Here is a great example. I overcame a young lady’s objections on why she needs a system and she had one installed. Well, about 7 months later she called me and couldn’t thank me enough. As a matter of fact she was willing to pay anything to add more equipment throughout the entire house (all window sensors, glass break protection, etc…). The reason is, she was upstairs in the shower when her siren went off and she discovered her back door was kicked open. A few minutes later her neighbor told her she witnessed a man with a pistol in his hand running away from her house. We don’t want to imagine what may have happened if he wasn’t scared away from the siren!

Have you ever thought about how you choose to dress and accessorize impacts your personal safety? If you’re like me, the answer to that question is likely, “No.” Your mind may then go off on a tangent that goes something like, “Are you crazy! Are you insinuating that by dressing provocatively, I’m asking for trouble, or deserve it if trouble comes my way?” “You can’t be suggesting that I dress like a nun!” The reactions are endless and I want to start by saying that I share your reaction to comments of this nature. However, I would like to point out a few things for all women to think about and consider.
- How fast can a person run in 3-inch heels? 5-inch heels? If you can sprint quick enough to outrun a potential attacker, then by all means, wear those heels. However, if you cannot, consider wearing tennis shoes when walking from your car to your office, it may not be all that fashionable, but it is safer and easier on your feet. As a bonus, think about purchasing a pair of those new toning tennis shoes and get a work out in while you walk.
- How fast can you run in a tight skirt? If you can’t take a normal stride in the skirt, how are you going to be able to run away from a potential attacker? Save the sexy, tight skirt for date night when you will be with your significant other and less likely to be pursued by an attacker.
- Do any of your accessories provide the opportunity to grab you? Do you wear scarves that trail after you? How do you carry your purse or hand bag? Close to your body, or away from your body? Continue Reading…
